# We were worried that our garden would be ruined after the installation, but they were very careful to put everything back. It took a while for the grass to grow back, but it's fine now. And we are very happy with the way the system is working, thanks very much!

Welcome to AlternativeEnergySources

A montage showing four different types of alternative energy. Whether you just want to know more about alternative energy or you want to get involved yourself and start using renewable energy either at your home or place of work, you've come to the right place! Here you will learn about what alternative energy is, why it is important, and how it can be useful to you on your property. To find out more, feel free to give us a call and we will give you all of the additional information that you might want, including a free quote for a heat pump or solar installation.

What Is Alternative Energy?

When we talk about alternative energy sources, what we really mean is renewable energy. Since the industrial revolution we have had to use more and more non-renewable energy, which are also called conventional energy sources. These are things that we find in the Earth, and they do not replenish themselves after we use them, things like coal, natural gas and oil.

Alternative energy sources, then, make use of the natural energy that is around us all the time from the sun, the wind and air, the ground and the water. These translate to:

Solar Energy (power from the sun),
Wind Power (energy from the wind),
Geothermal Power (energy from the heat of the Earth), and
Hydroelectric Power (energy from water).

There is also another form of alternative energy, and it is renewable as long as we do not use any more than we grow, and that is:
Biomass (energy from plants).

This involves burning plant matter, which if it was not replenished would not be renewable. However,as we are also able to grow this form of energy naturally, it can also be classed as a form of renewable energy.

Why Is Alternative Energy Important?

An illustration of an air source heat pump at a house. There are two main reasons that it is important that we start using more alternative energy worldwide, and while they are slightly contradictory, they also lead to the same conclusion. One reason is that we have to stop using as much fossil fuel as we are because the carbon emissions are causing global warming. The other main reason is that eventually fossil fuels will run out so we have to transition to a form of energy which is not going to deplete. These reasons are contradictory in the sense that one of them states that we should stop using fossil fuels for the sake of the planet, and the other one assumes that we would want to be using conventional energy for as long as possible. However they are complimentary in the sense that they lead to the same conclusion: we need to use more alternative energy sources.
